Chapter Thirty

December 11, 2011

While in town, Ulric spends much of his time in the castle and in his pursuits of Briggette.  He even goes with her to help when she goes to do some work for the church building wells at outlying farms.  While walling in the bottom of one of the wells, she loses her footing and drops a fifty pound brick on her chest.  She is able to struggle and get it off and keep on working until the farmer and his wife invite them in for dinner.
I visit with my mentor and she tests my skills in a series of trap-finding and lock-picking exercises.  I do okay, but do not escape unscathed from the exercise.
One night, the Count informs Ulric that he must go to take care of some business of the realm, but that there is another area of concern that he wishes Ulric to investigate.  Winter is coming, with only six weeks to go before it sets in, so we must leave right away.

We enter the marsh but leave our horses at the garrison.
